My name is Preston Williams and I am running for City Council in Ward 3. My family moved to Sturgis in the late 90s to start Foothills Home Medical Equipment. Growing up in Sturgis I worked in the family business. In high school I was in MCJROTC.
After high school I joined the Army as a medic. I deployed 3 times while in. My first was as a Line Medic for an Infantry platoon in Iraq. My second was as a Senior Line Medic for an Infantry Company in Iraq. My third was as the Senior Medical Advisor to the Afghan Security Forces in Regional Command South in Afghanistan. After 8 years I was medically discharged and decided to move back home.
I am currently working at the VA here at Ft. Meade in the technology field. I enjoy fly fishing and hiking as well as other outdoor activities. I have volunteered for Sturgis Little League as a player’s agent and as an umpire. I am currently a member of the Sturgis Planning and Zoning Commission which has given me a lot of insight into how the City Government works. I would now like a more in-depth role with the City Council.
I am running for City Council to become an contributing member of the City Council to effectively manage the growth that is coming whether some like it or not. This includes ensuring available housing as well as the associated infrastructure to support that growth. I believe that we have many quality-of-life opportunities covering a wide range of areas that people can create.
The future of Sturgis looks good if we foster consensus instead of condemnation. Where our progress as a community reflects the success of our businesses, our main street, our infrastructure, and our growth. To bring a spirit of collaboration and shared effort to help continue to make events we host, better. To see opportunity, not obstacles in helping to plan our future.
